MS4 NPDES Permits
MS4 NPDES Permit Coverage for Elk Township: Municipal Separate Stormwater Systems (MS4’s) are conveyances or systems of conveyances including roads with drainage systems, municipal streets, catch basins, curbs, gutters, ditches, man-made channels or storm drains that are owned or operated by a public entity, are designed or used for collecting or conveying stormwater, and are not a combined sewer or part of a publicly owned treatment works.
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has advised that unless Elk Township qualifies for a waiver, stormwater discharges from its MS4 Municipal Separate Stormwater System (MS4) will need coverage under a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit by September 17, 2017. The Township Engineer will continue to advise the Board on the requirements/deadlines for its NPDES permit or waiver (must meet certain criteria).
